Puerto Rican-born scientist, Ph.D., and entrepreneur, Almaris Alonso Claudio never imaged herself as a children’s book author. She was inspired by her now 7-year-old daughter, Ariatna. During the pandemic, the pair wrote their first book, “The Mean Foal,” which teaches children to love and respect cultural differences. Ariatna was the illustrator.
While at home during the lockdown, during a virtual class, Ariatna learned the word empathy and she wanted to write a story about it. She was five years old when she wrote “The Mean Flower.” Imagine that!! This book follows along the lines of their first one but teaches children about the power of empathy. Both of the authors’ books are published in English and in Spanish and they are perfect reading for children ages 4-8.
