Last week, I chatted with Colombian author and mom, Paula Ocampo. Paula is new to the US, and settled in Ohio six years ago. Going through the immigrant experience triggered feelings of anxiety, low self-esteem, lack of confidence and reminders of childhood traumas that were invading her path to adjustment and a happy life.
Through self-acceptance, self-discovery and the study of the ho’oponopono (a Hawaiian spiritual practice of reconciliation and forgiveness), Paula changed her mindset and her perspective. She believes moms can live a happier life if they follow their intuition and this mantra: I am sorry, forgive me, thank you, I love you!
In her book, Vivir Sin Culpa, Paula shares her story of overcoming childhood trauma by using tools that helped her found her intuition and faced problems as opportunities that would lead to discover our life’s purpose. She wants to help others find their happiness too, without guilt!
Tips for moms:
- Accept that our lives are filled with light and shadows and that is OK.
- Accept that WE are a priority, without guilt!
- Work on yourself. What are things you like to do for self-care?
- Mind your feelings. Be honest about how you feel, especially these days. Honor your feelings!
- Educate your children from a very young about their private parts, consent, self-care. Keep an open dialogue.
- Confront your fears – the best way to diminish its power over you!
Thank you, Paula!
