I was fortunate to have the opportunity to interview Beatriz and ask her about her upbringing and how she is using her background to raise her children. Here is what she had to say!
How old are your kids now? – My twins are 10 years old.
Why is so important for you to raise them bilingual and bicultural? – I think it’s an incredible opportunity for their future to be able to speak more then one language and especially Spanish as Hispanics drive population growth in our Country. For personal reasons, I want them to be proud of their culture and their heritage and to continue to pass our family traditions along to their own families when the time comes.
How do you balance work and family life? – It’s always a struggle, I am not great at it, feel pretty guilty for working such long hours but I’m making an effort and best as present as possible when I am with the kids. Trying to adopt a “no electronics” rule for them and for me when we are together.
What has motherhood taught you? – What true love is and that even if you are the most organized person in the world as I used to be before kids there will always be curve balls that you need to adapt to when you are a mother.
Who inspires you? – My kids inspire me to be a better person and mom. I want to instill in them everything that my family inspired me to become as a woman from my adored grandmother “Mama Rosita” to my mom who I have taken so much inspiration from thru out my life.
Who is your hero or heroine? – My dad. He has always been such an incredible role model for me, such a smart, strong, hard working, passionate, proud and loving human being.
What are u reading now? – Thrive from Arianna Huffington. As you can see, I’m trying hard to balance my personal and work life, not easy but trying…
Your advise to working moms? – To enjoy what you have every day and be thankful for it. Tomorrow is such a mystery but making the best out of every day will really maximize your happiness and purpose both in work and home.
