I have mentioned before that when my children were growing up, there were not many places where I could find Spanish books. My sister would send them from Puerto Rico. Libraries and bookstores near my neighborhood didn’t carry many or none at all. Today, our Latino families have many more choices and there are more POC children book authors and even Latino owned book publishers. We even have the choice of subscription book boxes that arrive right to the home, like Booklandia Box.⠀
⠀
@BooklandiaBox is a unique opportunity for home and classroom libraries. Boxes are curated according to the family’s needs– board books boxes, chapter book boxes, combo boxes, and now build-your-own boxes.⠀
⠀
Founder Maceo Cabrera Estevez and I chatted last week about her love of books growing up and fostering the love of reading in Spanish in our children. ⠀
⠀
Recently, Booklandia has gotten involved in many Latino authors book launching by hosting their virtual events, like for Veoleo’s Pensamientos book and 123 Andrés new book Hello Friend/Hola, Amigo. I’m excited to announce that Booklandia and I are already planning the launching of my upcoming book published by 1010 Publishing, I have a Secret/Tengo un Secreto this December. More details soon!⠀

Tips to encourage reading:⠀
– Designate an area in your home for a home library – include books in Spanish and bilingual. ⠀
– Designate an area in your home for comfy reading.⠀
– Allow kids to choose what books to read.⠀
– Alternate reading languages every other night.⠀
– Reading can happen at any time, not only at bedtime!⠀
– Be a good example – kids want to see parents reading too!⠀
