Club Mundo Kids is a new bilingual edutainment television series aimed at first- and- second-generation Latino children. Hosted by Romina Puga, the show also instills cultural pride and explores wonderful topics like science, wildlife, and the planet. Romina, a former correspondent for ABC News was raised with two languages and three cultures. She is half Chilean and half Argentinian and was born in America. Romi grew up speaking Spanish at home and English at school. She is really enjoying her new bilingual role as “Romi,” the main character, along with her puppet friends, Coco and Maya.
“I love that our show can support Latino parents that want to preserve their native language and parents raising bilingual children. Watching our show kids can see that it is OK to speak Spanish and that it is cool to be bilingual.”
I invite you to watch our IGTV!
Club Mundo Kids is mostly in Spanish, but also includes words in English. It also introduces children to different dialects in Spanish. Words that are authentic to a specific country.
Romi is not only the show’s host, but she is the co-creator and writer and she gets involved in the show’s themes and makes all the crafts. “I enjoy recreating things I see and making simple crafts that kids can do at home with their parents. It is a fun opportunity for language learning and language practice.”
Club Mundo Kids is a wonderful resource for families with children ages 5-7. There is always an opportunity for engagement and a thematic lesson while the children are exposed to the parent’s native language.
The first season with 14 episodes can be found on Amazon Prime, with clips from the show on YouTube @ClubMundoKids.
