Last week I had the opportunity to participate in the third annual Culture Friendship Festival, hosted by my good friend Sonia Smith Kang founder of Mixed Up Clothing, and her friends from DDH public relations, KIDSFASH, RealMomsofSFV, EVVEMI, KidsEmbrace and MASC.
An afternoon that honored cultural diversity and highlighted elements from different cultures, the Culture + Friendship Festival is an event where mixed heritage families have the chance to come together and celebrate everyone’s differences. From photo booths to product demonstrations, like beautiful dolls that remind us that little girls come in many skin colors and beautiful hair types, to arts and crafts, to giveaways and books authored by multicultural authors with stories that help children identify with their heritage.
For parents that have babies and toddlers, KidsEmbrace was on hand displaying their safe car seats and strollers all the while reminding us that children are all superheroes!
And because books are a great way to teach children about culture, there was an area for book reading and book signing. Author Jennifer Vassel delighted the children with her book, I Am Unique, the story of a little girl that reminds us to embrace our uniqueness, with optimism and confidence. Author Lesli D. Mitchell engaged the kids with the book, Sally Weans From Nite Nursing, a story that teaches children the gradual process of weaning without judgment.
A panel discussing raising multicultural families moderated by Sonia included the talented entrepreneur mom T Lopez from MomLifeYo, who shared her life as a multicultural mom.
To cap up the day, there was a lovely fashion show with talented young children, including social media sensation Jordyn Curet, all modeling clothes by Mixed Up Clothing.
If you missed it this year, make plans to join us next year. Culture + Friendship Festival is the place to be for all things multicultural!
