It is not often that we meet a Latina entrepreneur that has the opportunity to share her culture through food in a town where Argentinian food was not available. So is the case of Alexandra Gorosito, a mom that was born in New York, raised in the South American country of Argentina, moved back to NY in her teens, and has made a life in Arizona for the last six years. Talk about cultural adjustment. “After being surrounded by a plethora of cultures and able to find Argentinian food in NYC relatively easy, it was a long road to adjustment here in Arizona. I cried every day for a whole year!” said Alexandra is the founder of Buenos Aires Empanadas, an Argentinian catering company based in Phoenix.
Fast forward six years, and mom and two sons are busy and happy. “It wasn’t easy for my kids. They were 14 and 10 when we moved. We all had to adjust culturally. New York is so multicultural. Our new home was not so. Yet, I knew we were here for a reason. Maybe it was up to us to share our culture and our food with our new neighborhood.”

Alexandra’s Argentinian food has made it to the corporate offices in her city, the farmer’s markets in the cities nearby, and events and parties that hire her catering services constantly. Even the pandemic didn’t slow her down much. Maybe for a little while but business is back up and non-stop. Her empanadas are famous as are other Argentinian dishes including Milanesa, Choripan, Matambre con Rusa and Bondiola.
“The pandemic has been hard for everyone. For us, having lived through the changes we survived when we moved cross country, we were able to adjust, reinvent, and moved forward.” Alexandra is just happy that her city enjoys her food and that people have been so receptive and supportive.
Being the highest meat-eating country in the world, Argentina is also one of the biggest beef producers and exporters. “I think my new town is loving the cuts of meat, the taste, the flavors. I am really enjoying honoring my culture with my work.”
