Catching up with bilingual mom Christa Jiménez is always a treat. Her energy and determination for everything bilingual is always contagious and bilingual moms are lucky to count on her support and her contributions to raising bilinguals.
Christa and I met in person a few years ago at a WeAllGrowLatina Summit and have been friends ever since. She had just launched her platform, Pura Vida Moms, a space where she provides practical and intentional resources for families raising diverse kids through cultural recipes, bilingual parenting advice, and international family travel- with a special focus on Costa Rica.
I invite you to watch our IGTV!
When asked about the Pura Vida Moms name for her platform, she answered,” Pura Vida means be kind, do good, live free. That is what the Costa Rican people are about. I wanted to showcase the Costa Rican people, their food, and their culture. You don’t hear much about Costa Rican traditions on social media. I am happy to share all of that!” Pura Vida now has an online store where people can buy products from the country.
Christa’s Tips For Raising Bilingual Children
- Don’t give up!
- Find a village
- Make it fun
- Travel, explore, make it real.
As far as raising kids grateful for their heritage, Christa believes that children learn by example and that if their parents show appreciation for their culture in their everyday lives, their children will too.
