“As a father of two, I understand the importance of child play. Children need the opportunity to be around other children. Yet, they still need to follow health protocols, especially this summer!” Dr. Ilan Shapiro, Medical Director of the Department of Education Health and Wellness for Alta Med.
In my conversation with Dr. Ilan Shapiro last week, we learned that even though our quarantine days may be coming to an end slowly, we should still take precautions and follow guidelines that will help children and parents stay healthy during the summer months.
“Covid 19 is still here. It’s not over. There are many health professionals in many countries looking for answers, but we don’t have a vaccine yet, so we must do all we can to stay healthy.”
Dr. Shaps, as he is known to patients and friends, reminded us that children can play outside, but they should still wear masks (2 years+), should still wash their hands often and should still follow social distance when they are in an enclosed room.
Important guidelines to follow this summer:
- Make sure your children’s vaccines are up to date.
- Continue following social distance guidelines – kids and adults
- Wear a mask, especially when in close proximity to others.
- Hand washing – OFTEN
- Even if you have tested positive for antibodies test, still follow precautions. We don’t know yet the validity of the results.
