On my Instagram Live Parenting Tips Series these past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to share meaningful dialogues with entrepreneurs/experts in psychology and nutrition offering tips for parenting during Covid19. As small business owners have been deeply affected by the situation, Latina moms have offered simple but powerful suggestions to help them redirect and stay afloat.
In my talk with Rachel Matos, CEO of Blue Lotus Collective, and mom to a 20-year-old son in college, we learned how she and her team have been able to jumpstart
business by coming up new ideas for her clients, and how hard it is to be away from her son while everyone is obeying the lockdown. “Like all moms, I worry about the isolation and his mental health through this experience. But I trust his judgment.”

3 suggestions for parents who are small business owners:
- Pivot strategies– study/re-evaluate each client individually and redirect. Create new
ideas, new opportunities. - Let it go – don’t get stuck in what you can’t control.
- Keep up with what is going in your field/area. The more you know, the better you can advise
your clients.
3 suggestions for parents with college-age children:
- Check-in often-especially if they are alone in an apartment. Texts/social media are a great way to stay
connected. - Schedule video visits, facetime or calls once or twice a week.
- It takes a village–ask family members like aunts/uncles, grandparents, close friends, to
communicate. - As soon as it is possible, plan a visit.
