Latinx Parenting is a bilingual organization actively educating parents in the individual and the collective practice of raising children without violence, advocating for children’s rights and reparenting intergenerational and ancestral healing, and cultural decolonization of any oppression in our families. Latinx Parenting founder, Leslie Priscilla, has revolutionized Latino parenting with her platform, offering workshops and daily messages for parents to raise children with love and cultura.
Her hashtag, #EndChanclaCulture has become very popular and an integral part of her work. Leslie and I chatted recently about her work, motherhood, and offer tips to raise healthy, happy and successful kids, mentally and physically.
I invite you to watch our short IGTV.
Even though we had technical difficulties and some of our conversation was not recorded, I am certain you will be inspired, motivated and educated and will want to support everything Latinx Parenting!
Leslie’s 5 tips to End Chancla Culture
- Learn the history of our Latinx colonized, authoritarian culture. What were those practices? (Corporal punishment, degradation, humiliation, verbal abuse, fears, our identity) How were we parent?
- Find a therapist – culturally sensitive, reflect on your childhood, how did you feel as a child.
- Reconnect with our bodies- hurts, feelings, memories. How was I allowed to be vs how I want to parent today?
- How do we reconcile? Education, parenting classes, family pressures, inner child, reparenting, re-mothering.
- Reflection- Develop new strategies, what is it that my children need?
Latinx Parenting offers workshops that teach parents new strategies for connection, regulation, and peace with family, child, and self.
