Recently I had the opportunity to speak with a new bilingual friend I met on Instagram. She is Arantza Ariño, an online bilingual Spanish/French teacher. Arantza was born and raised in Spain but has been living in Paris for many years. So much so that she considers herself a native! “If only I had the citizenship,” she laments. We talked about the intricacies of having a dual citizenship in France but mostly about her work to promote bilingualism.
Arantza has been around languages all her life. She speaks Spanish, French, English, Italian, and the language, Euskera, spoken in the region of Spain where she grew up and has a professional background in tourism. She became a teacher in Spanish and French and offers online classes in those two languages for children and teens. She enjoys teaching both age groups and takes the time to work with every student individually creating language learning fun as well as educational.
I invite you to watch our IGTV in Spanish!
Certified in the DELE system, which is a diploma that states her experience as a teacher in the Spanish language to both Spanish and French speakers, Arantza works with students all over the world including Germany, France, Switzerland, the UK and Panamá from ages 3-17. “I enjoy working with children and young people individually and in groups because everyone learns at their own rhythm and interests. The mother of two boys born in France and fluent in French and in Spanish.
3 tips that have helped Arantza with raising bilingual:
- Make learning fun! Games like Pictionary (in Spanish) and cultural traditions are fun teaching tools.
- Linguistic immersion is very helpful. Trips are a great way to expose language. Or even living in that country for a while.
- Live in the present and take advantage of the developmental stage of your child to instill a love of language.
